Collect Prayer
Grant, almighty God, that we may celebrate with heartfelt devotion these days of joy, which we keep in honour of the Risen Lord, and that what we relive in remembrance we may always hold to in what we do. Through our lord Jesus Christ...
Readings
Acts 8: 5-8, 14-14 Psalm 66 1 Peter 3: 15-18 John 14: 15-21
At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, ‘If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you for ever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. ‘I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.’

Readings Next Sunday (Ascension Day on 17th)
Acts 1: 1-11 Psalm 47 Ephesians 1: 17-23 Matthew 28: 16-20
Ascension of the Lord, Solemnity
(St. Augustine, Tractate 74)
ʽHe shall give you another Helperʼ - It is the Spirit, the Comforter, that Christ has promised to His apostles; but let us notice the way in which He gave the promise.
‘If you love me, He says, keep my commandments: and I will ask the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you for ever: the Spirit of truth.’
We have here, at all events, the Holy Spirit in the Trinity, whom the catholic faith acknowledges to be consubstantial and co-eternal with Father and Son [...]
But when He says ‘I will ask the Father, and He shall give you another Paraclete’, He intimates that He Himself is also a Paraclete. For Paraclete is in Latin called advocatus (advocate); and it is said of Christ: ‘We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous’. (1 Jn 2:1)
The historical character of the mystery of Christ's Resurrection and Ascension helps us to recognize and understand the transcendent condition of the Church which was not born and does not live to compensate for the absence of her Lord who has "disappeared" but on the contrary finds the reason for her existence and mission in the invisible presence of Jesus, a presence working through the power of his Spirit. (Pope Benedict XVI°, 24.05.2009)

Prayer for Missionaries and Catechists
Heavenly Father, source of all missions, we lift before you all missionaries, catechists, and all who proclaim the Gospel by their words and by their life. Bless the missionaries you have sent to the nations, to villages, and cities, to classrooms, homes, and hearts. Sustain them, and renew their joy in serving your people.
Bless all catechists of the Church. May their love reflect the patience of Christ, the Good Shepherd. We pray for all those whom you call to missionary life, whether as catechists or in other ways, to spread the Gospel. Open their hearts to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Grant them the courage to respond generously and guide them with wisdom and peace as they discern your will.
Through the intercession of Mary, the first Missionary of Christ, may the Church continue to go forth, proclaiming the Gospel. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
