Collect Prayer

Almighty ever-living God, constantly accomplish the Paschal Mystery within us, that those you were pleased to make new in Holy Baptism may, under your protective care, bear much fruit and come to the joys of life eternal. Through our Lord Jesus Christ...

Readings

 Acts 6: 1-7   Psalm 33   1 Peter 2: 4-9 John 14: 1-12

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.’

Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’

Philip said to him, ‘Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, “Show us the Father”? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.’

''I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life''

(St. Thomas Aquinas, Exposition on John’s Gospel, Cp. 14, Lect. II)

Christ himself is the way, and therefore he says: I am the way. This certainly is eminently right for through him we have access to the Father. Since this way is not separate from its end, but joined to it, he adds the truth and the life; thus he is himself at once both the way and the goal. In his human nature he is the way, and in his divine nature he is the goal. Therefore, speaking as man he says: I am the way; and speaking as God he adds: the truth and the life. These two words are an apt description of this goal.

Prayer for Missionaries and Catechists

Heavenly Father, source of all missions, we lift before you all missionaries, catechists, and all who proclaim the Gospel by their words and by their life. Bless the missionaries you have sent to the nations, to villages, and cities, to classrooms, homes, and hearts. Sustain them, and renew their joy in serving your people.

Bless all catechists of the Church. May their love reflect the patience of Christ, the Good Shepherd. We pray for all those whom you call to missionary life, whether as catechists or in other ways, to spread the Gospel. Open their hearts to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Grant them the courage to respond generously and guide them with wisdom and peace as they discern your will.

Through the intercession of Mary, the first Missionary of Christ, may the Church continue to go forth, proclaiming the Gospel. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
