Collect Prayer
O God, who have commanded us to listen to your beloved Son, be pleased, we pray, to nourish us inwardly by your word, that, with spiritual sight made pure, we may rejoice to behold your glory. Through our Lord Jesus Christ…
Readings
Genesis 12:1-4a Psalm 33 2 Timothy 1:8b-10
Matthew 17:1-9
At that time: Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.’
He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.’ When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, ‘Rise, and have no fear.’ And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one, but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, ‘Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.’

The Transfiguration of Our Lord
Exerpt from a homily on the Transfiguration of the Lord by Pope St. Leo the Great
Jesus took Peter, and James, and John his brother, and brought them up into an exceeding high mountain apart, and manifested forth the brightness of His glory. Hitherto, though they understood that there was in Him the Majesty of God, they knew not the power of that Body which veiled the Godhead. And therefore He had individually and markedly promised to some of the disciples that had stood by Him (Matthew, 28) that they should “not taste of death till they had seen the Son of Man coming in His kingdom”, that is, in the kingly splendour, which is the right of the Manhood taken into God, and which He willed to make visible to those three men.
This it was that they saw, for the unspeakable and unapproachable vision of the Godhead Himself which will be the everlasting life of the pure in heart, (Matthew, 8) can no man, who is still burdened with a dying body, see and live.
St. Casimir of Cracow, prince
St. Casimir was the third of thirteen children and in line to be a king. He received excellent spiritual formation, showing an uncommon wisdom, maturity and charity. He prayed routinely and led a chaste, disciplined life. When nobles in Hungary deposed an elected king, a fraction besought Poland's aid.

The Polish king, together with Prince Casimir, amassed an army to reinstate the elected ruler. But, as some difficulties arose, Prince Casimir and his king did not engage in wars of conquest. Instead, they mediated whenever political conflicts arose.
He continued performing good works while his health deteriorated. He remained celibate and declined marriage to the emperor’s daughter as he consecrated to the Lord with a vow of virginity. Prince Casimir reigned briefly as king of Poland; at 23 years old, he passed away from lung sickness. Buried in Vilnius. He is the patron saint of Poland and Lithuania.

Prayer for Vocations to Consecrated Life
Oh God, who call those you wish to follow your Son, Jesus Christ, in His very way of life and mission, send your Spirit to strengthen those you have consecrated to yourself: nuns, monks, religious men and women, hermits, consecrated virgins, consecrated widows and widowers, members of Societies of Apostolic Life.
We thank you for the precious gift of their lives and their testimony. Grant them faithfulness in their vows, courage to live their vocation with passion. Help them bring the light of your gospel to all, reflect your love, and be clear sign of your Kingdom through their lives and mission.
Send your Holy Spirit to those you call to consecrate their lives to you and those who are discerning this path, so that they may hear your voice clearly and respond with trust and generosity.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
