Collect Prayer

O God, who in this wonderful Sacrament have left us a memorial of your Passion, grant us, we pray, so to revere the sacred mysteries of your Body and Blood that we may always experience in ourselves the fruits of your redemption. Who live and reign...

Readings

 Deuteronomy 8: 2-3; 14b-16a   Psalm 147   2 Corinthians 10: 16-17   John 6: 51-58

At that time: Jesus said to the Jews, ‘I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live for ever. And the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.’ The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, 'How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ So Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live for ever.’

Readings next Sunday (11th Sunday in Ordinary Time)

 Exodus 19: 2-6a   Psalm 100   Romans 5: 6-11   Matthew 9:36-10:8

Saints of the Week

Tue 09 - St. Ephrem, Deacon and Doctor of the Church

Thu 11 - St. Barnabas, Apostle

Sat 13 - St. Anthony of Padua, Priest and Doctor of the Church

My Flesh is True Food

It is Christ himself, the eternal high priest of the New Covenant who, acting through the ministry of the priests, offers the Eucharistic sacrifice. And it is the same Christ, really present under the species of bread and wine, who is the offering of the Eucharistic sacrifice.

(C.C.C, 1410)

By the consecration the transubstantiation of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ is brought about. Under the consecrated species of bread and wine Christ himself, living and glorious, is present in a true, real, and substantial manner: his Body and his Blood, with his soul and his divinity (cf. Council of Trent: DS 1640; 1651, C.C.C, 1413)

Prayer for Missionaries and Catechists

Heavenly Father, source of all missions, we lift before you all missionaries, catechists, and all who proclaim the Gospel by their words and by their life. Bless the missionaries you have sent to the nations, to villages, and cities, to classrooms, homes, and hearts. Sustain them, and renew their joy in serving your people.

Bless all catechists of the Church. May their love reflect the patience of Christ, the Good Shepherd. We pray for all those whom you call to missionary life, whether as catechists or in other ways, to spread the Gospel. Open their hearts to the promptings of the Holy Spirit. Grant them the courage to respond generously and guide them with wisdom and peace as they discern your will.

Through the intercession of Mary, the first Missionary of Christ, may the Church continue to go forth, proclaiming the Gospel. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
