Zephaniah 2:3.3 ; 12-13 Psalm 146 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
Matthew 5:1-12
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying:

"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven."

Blessed are the poor in spirit – Works of mercy
[2447 C.C.C.]
[…] “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”, says the Lord. In the Catechism of the Catholic Church, we find that comforting the sorrowful is one of the seven works of mercy. These are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbour in his spiritual and bodily necessities. Instructing, advising, consoling, comforting are spiritual works of mercy, as are forgiving and bearing wrongs patiently.
[…] Among all these, giving alms to the poor is one of the chief witnesses to fraternal charity: it is also a work of justice pleasing to God.
St Blaise

St. Blaise, a 4th-century Armenian bishop and martyr, refused to renounce his faith and was brutally tortured and beheaded in the year 316. Officially canonized by the Catholic Church in the 8th century, he is renowned for miraculous healings, most famously saving a child choking on a fishbone by placing crossed candles on his throat.
As a patron saint of throat, ailments, and wild animals, he also famously forced a wolf to return a stolen pig to a poor widow and healed sick beasts in his cave. Saint Blaise's life and miracles continue to inspire and comfort the faithful, and his legacy as a healer and protector of the vulnerable endures to this day.
Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver us from every disease of the throat, and from every other illness
S. Blaise, pray for us.

Prayer for Vocations to Consecrated Life
Oh God, who call those you wish to follow your Son, Jesus Christ, in His very way of life and mission, send your Spirit to strengthen those you have consecrated to yourself: nuns, monks, religious men and women, hermits, consecrated virgins, consecrated widows and widowers, members of Societies of Apostolic Life.
We thank you for the precious gift of their lives and their testimony. Grant them faithfulness in their vows, courage to live their vocation with passion. Help them bring the light of your gospel to all, reflect your love, and be clear sign of your Kingdom through their lives and mission.
Send your Holy Spirit to those you call to consecrate their lives to you and those who are discerning this path, so that they may hear your voice clearly and respond with trust and generosity.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
